There has long been a parallel drawn between the transformation of going through a personal grief journey and the transformation of a butterfly. From egg to caterpillar to chrysalis and the formation of a beautiful butterfly, the journey is nothing short of amazing. The grief from losing a special person in your life can be thought of in this way.
It is a unique process to go from the pain of loss to being able to celebrate that person and what was important for you together. No one can tell you how long that journey takes because everyone grieves in their own way. Your loss stays with you but transforms from devastating pain to acceptance of loss then on to strength to move forward with your life. The journey through grief is a transformation to a future where you can celebrate the amazing person you lost and the impact they had on your life.
The release of a butterfly can be seen as a symbol of the release of the pain of grief. You may see symbolism in the release as letting go of the past and embracing a future in which your special person is remembered and honored. This also offers an opportunity for family members to share their memories and help each other through the grief process.
Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan helps people commemorate the loss of their loved ones with a Butterfly Release and Remembrance event. Due to the restrictions on gathering safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is going to be celebrated virtually. We hope you’ll join us for the first-ever Virtual Butterfly Release & Remembrance Week being held on our website and social media July 18th through July 24th.
